In the constant flow of an airport, there are services that are as essential as they are discreet. Activities that ensure that every passenger, regardless of their physical abilities, can travel safely, with dignity and autonomy. One of these services is assistance for people with reduced mobility (PRM), a task that silently supports accessibility on thousands of journeys every day.
Recently, Nuria Placeres García' s post on LinkedIn put the importance of PRM service and its evolution within the airport sector at the center of the conversation. A valuable reflection that reminds us that accessibility is not an add-on: it is a fundamental pillar of the travel experience.
In Air Rail we celebrate that professionals like Nuria give visibility to this work that, although often goes unnoticed, is essential. And we want to join this recognition by sharing the contribution we make from our field.
Our contribution to the PRM service in Spain
At Air Rail, we are especially proud to contribute to the airport ecosystem with a significant part of the Ambulifts and PRM equipment operating in Spain. These units allow passengers with reduced mobility to be transferred remotely from the terminal to the aircraft, guaranteeing a comfortable, safe and adapted to their needs.
Domestic manufacturing and expanding service
All this equipment is manufactured in Spain, which allows us to offer robust, reliable solutions adapted to the operational standards of the country's airports. The demand for PRM units continues to grow, and with it our commitment to continue developing solutions that provide value to operators, airlines and passengers.
First electric units: towards a more sustainable mobility
Six months ago we took a key step: we put into operation our first 100% electric Ambulifts and PRM equipment units.
This milestone represents a significant advance in terms of sustainability, efficiency and operational comfort.
The advantages of our new electric units include:
- Zero emissions, contributing to the reduction of environmental impact on the platform.
- Increased comfort for both operators and passengers due to quieter operation.
- Optimized operating costs, with more efficient maintenance.
- Alignment with the decarbonization objectives of the airport sector.
The transition to electric fleets is a path that has already begun, and at Air Rail we want to continue leading this process together with our customers and partners.
A necessary thank you
We reiterate our thanks to Nuria Placeres García for putting the spotlight on this important service. Her reflection reminds us that accessibility, inclusion and the well-being of all passengers must be central to the future of a more humane and sustainable aviation.
At Air Rail we will continue working to bring innovation, reliability and increasingly responsible solutions to the PRM service at airports in Spain and around the world.
