A day like today, six years ago: the start of electric passenger transport at Spanish airports

On April 9, 2019, Air Rail, Aviapartner and Yutong introduced the first electric passenger bus at Seville Airport, marking a before and after in sustainable airport mobility in Spain. Today, six years later, we reaffirm our commitment to innovation and responsible transportation.

April 9, 2019 marked a before and after in passenger transport within Spanish airports. On that day, Air Rail, in collaboration with Aviapartner and Yutong, put into operation the first 100% electric bus at Seville Airport, initiating a new stage towards cleaner and more efficient operations.

Six years later, this first step has been transformed into a large-scale deployment: more than 130 Yutong buses are now operating in airports across Europe, and nearly 50% of them are already electric. An evolution that reflects how technology and a shared vision between operators, manufacturers and airports can shape a new way of getting around.

A silent but powerful change

The electric bus, manufactured by Yutong, not only led to a significant reduction in emissions, but also transformed the experience inside the airport: quieter, more efficient and environmentally friendly transfers. This project was made possible thanks to the impetus of Jesús Caballero, then director of Seville Airport.

For Air Rail, this was the starting point of an ongoing strategy to optimize processes and rethink airport transportation from a more conscious logic, oriented towards sustainable results.

Looking ahead

Today, April 9, 2025, we celebrate six years since that first step with the certainty that transformation is underway. And we continue to collaborate with strategic partners to design solutions that not only work better, but have a lasting positive impact.

Because at Air Rail, WE MAKE IT POSSIBLE.

PRM: The importance of an essential service that continues to evolve

Mobility for People with Reduced Mobility (PRM) is an essential service at airports, although it often goes unnoticed. Nuria Placeres' recent reflection reminds us of its importance and invites us to recognize the work of all the teams that make it possible. At Air Rail, we are proud to contribute to the national manufacturing of Ambulifts and PRM equipment present throughout Spain, including our first 100% electric units incorporated in recent months.

New developments in our project with ADIF Alta Velocidad

We moved forward in our project with ADIF Alta Velocidad with the delivery of the first two of six rocker beams. These elements facilitate the handling of pre-assembled switches, improving safety and operational efficiency. After passing the load tests, they are already installed at the Maintenance Base in Monforte del Cid (Alicante). At Air Rail, we continue to promote solutions that strengthen the reliability of high-speed rail.
